The setup

An aging king takes a bride of twenty-two. His adult son is her own age. She spends the wedding night in the wrong chamber, and the prince sees something there that nobody at court knows: she carries the brand of the enemy kingdom.

A political plot the format cannot hold

That is a real premise. A queen whose loyalty is in question, a prince who holds the evidence, and a king who is the only person the secret could destroy. Every scene afterwards has three readings.

The problem is arithmetic. Five episodes of ninety seconds is seven minutes, and seven minutes cannot carry court intrigue. The series knows the political story is the interesting one and does not have room for it, so it keeps the chamber and leaves the treaty as a detail.

If anything in this catalogue deserved fifteen episodes, it was this and not the feud series that got them.

The brand

It is a good image and a good device: a secret that is physical, that cannot be denied once seen, and that makes the person who saw it complicit in keeping it. The series uses it twice and then stops.
