The setup
One suburban street. Every husband has gone to work. A plumber’s real round starts once the driveways empty, and the series gives you one house per episode.
There is no plot and the series does not pretend there is. This is the anthology format, and the honest version of it: five houses, five calls, one constant.
Does the format earn five episodes

Here the answer was yes, and that is not what we said about everything in the same week’s batch. The reason is the small amount of continuity the series allows itself: by the third house there is a sense that word has travelled, and by the fourth someone is expecting him. That is barely a plot and it is exactly enough.

The rotating-cast format at its most honest: one house per episode, no pretence at a plot, and the only question is whether you want three more doors. We did, which is not something we said about everything in that week's batch. The fourth episode, where someone is expecting him, is the one that justifies the structure.
