Accident With My Stepmom: a hotel room, ten episodes, and a husband who turns up

The setup

A thirty-seven-year-old woman has a work trip. Her husband was supposed to come and cancels. She invites her twenty-year-old stepson into the empty seat, and the hotel does the rest.

It is a thriller structure with the knife replaced by a phone call. Two people in a room, a third who could arrive at any moment, and ten episodes of them deciding how much they are willing to risk.

Why ten episodes works here

Most of this catalogue runs five, and most of the ones that run longer are padded. This is the exception. The first half is the affair establishing itself; the second half is the husband turning up unannounced, which gives the back five episodes a genuine problem rather than a repetition.

The phone calls home are the best-written thing in the series. She complains to her husband about being left alone, from a room where she is anything but, and the series lets the irony sit without underlining it.

How explicit it gets

Five out of five. Episode 1 ends at its first sex scene. There is no warm-up stretch and no gradual escalation; the series establishes its register immediately and the hotel setting keeps everything in close shot.

What it costs

No free episode. Premium opens episodes 1 and 2, then eight episodes at 30 tokens each: 240 tokens to finish.

That is a serious number, second only to Blackout at My Yacht Party. The difference is that this one keeps developing to the end, which makes it the better of the two long runs.
